A Adtran Case Study
The City of London Corporation faced the challenge of providing high-speed, neutral host wireless backhaul across its dense and historic Square Mile district to eliminate mobile blackspots and support its future 5G ambitions. The unique urban environment made traditional fibre deployment impractical and disruptive. The municipality awarded a contract to a joint venture which selected Adtran's CCS Metnet self-organising microwave backhaul solution to address these issues.
Adtran's CCS Metnet system provided a wireless mesh network that required no radio frequency planning and could operate without a direct line of sight between nodes, enabling a rapid and discreet deployment on street furniture. The solution delivered high capacity, low latency backhaul for both a new public Wi-Fi network and a 4G small cell network. This resulted in the UK's fastest free public Wi-Fi service being launched in just 28 weeks, with immediate improvements in coverage and user experience, laying a future-proof foundation for 5G adoption.
