A AdRem Software Case Study
Conforama Italia, together with Emmezeta Moda, operates a network of 28 stores in Italy (15 Conforama, 13 Emmezeta) with a main office in Vergiate, a northern warehouse and 15 remote sites connected over an MPLS backbone. Each site includes POS systems, servers (AS/400, domain controllers, application and database servers), security and building systems, and UPSs. The IT team had been relying on free/open-source monitoring tools that demanded frequent maintenance and could not reliably monitor remote sites, detect TCP packet errors, or prioritize mission‑critical applications.
Deploying NetCrunch, the team built dynamic per-site network maps and optimized monitoring of over 4,000 nodes by using a simplified 60‑minute polling for noncritical devices while focusing detailed SNMP-based monitoring on key servers and applications (AS/400, Lotus Notes, BlackBerry, Oracle, MS‑SQL). Custom views, predefined availability reports and email/SMS alerts let a four‑person IT team detect and resolve issues faster (they identified a server that had been down for a day), improve reporting and alerting, and free the IT manager to concentrate on budgeting and network expansion planning.
