Source Interlink Media (SIM), publisher of 78 enthusiast magazines including Motor Trend and Shutterbug, wanted to extend its print titles to tablet devices but faced a large volume of page-by-page PDF files and needed to minimize rework, resources, and time. The company set an ambitious goal to get 40 digital titles live in 40 days while also attracting readers and advertisers to the new format.
SIM adopted Adobe Digital Publishing Suite, Enterprise Edition, and used an InDesign script to automate converting PDFs into correctly ordered InDesign folios that import into DPS with a single command. The automated workflow allowed the team to produce two to three digital issues per day, meet the 40-in-40 target, launch a scalable digital strategy, attract advertisers and new readership, and quickly repurpose back issues for additional revenue.
