Case Study: Roche Diagnostics achieves 50% faster PDF production and structured XML authoring with Adobe FrameMaker (Adobe)

A Adobe Case Study

Preview of the Roche Diagnostics Case Study

Roche Diagnostics gives clinicians and researchers more of what they want from product documentation

Roche Diagnostics, a division of Roche Group that makes complex, highly regulated in vitro diagnostic products, needed to modernize its large, image‑heavy manuals to meet customer demand for more visuals, move from unstructured to structured XML, and prepare content for migration to a component CMS. Producing operator and service manuals of up to thousands of pages across many languages made faster, standardized authoring and easier content reuse essential.

Working with partner commatec, Roche implemented Adobe FrameMaker with a custom XML framework and FrameScript automations to convert unstructured files to structured XML and simplify authoring. The change halved PDF production time, enabled successful structured editing, delivered much stronger visual design (earning industry recognition), and set the team up to further cut translation time once the SCHEMA CMS is in place.
