PADI, tablet-based training for diving enthusiasts

PADI, the world’s largest scuba diving training organization (136,000+ members), needed a cutting-edge, tablet-based learning experience that combined immersive media with performance‑based instruction and worked offline in remote dive locations. The challenge was to produce engaging, interactive folios quickly with in‑house teams while integrating assessments and tracking to ensure students were prepared for in‑water training.

PADI built the PADI Open Water Diver Touch folio using Adobe Digital Publishing Suite, delivering video, in‑app quizzes, gesture navigation, offline access on iOS and Android, and LMS integration with analytics. The result: higher student engagement and retention, instructors reporting better‑prepared students, global adoption of the folio, and a scalable platform and insights for evolving additional interactive training publications.
