A Adobe Case Study
Maid Marian Entertainment, a Vancouver-based independent developer best known for the browser MMORPG Sherwood Dungeon, set out to bring retail-quality 3D MMO experiences to web browsers. The company faced the challenge of moving off an aging Shockwave platform onto a robust, modern stack that could deliver GPU-accelerated 3D performance, support thousands of simultaneous players, and open distribution through Flash-only game portals.
Maid Marian transitioned to Adobe Gaming technologies—Flash Professional, Flash Player Stage3D, ActionScript and Flare3D—enabling hardware-accelerated visuals, easier development and smooth porting of existing Shockwave code. The move delivered rich 3D across desktop browsers, supported up to about 3,000 concurrent social gamers and more than one million unique players monthly, expanded distribution and monetization opportunities, and positioned the studio to target mobile via Adobe AIR.
