Case Study: United States Renal Data System (USRDS) achieves an interactive, tablet-friendly annual report with Adobe Digital Publishing Suite

A Adobe Case Study

Preview of the United States Renal Data Systems (USRDS) Case Study

Leading research organization gathers and disseminates kidney disease information through convenient new tablet app, created using Adobe Digital Publishing Suite, Single Edition

United States Renal Data System (USRDS), a Minneapolis-based research organization that publishes a 400–500 page annual report on kidney disease, needed a portable, easy-to-navigate digital edition to serve researchers, clinicians, and policymakers while preserving the report’s visual design and keeping costs low as a grant-funded nonprofit.

Using Adobe Digital Publishing Suite, Single Edition and existing InDesign workflows via Adobe Creative Cloud, USRDS transformed its print layouts into an interactive tablet app—featuring linked chapter TOCs, slider bars, multistate objects and overlays—without hiring programmers. The result: a searchable, more engaging way to consume dense data, direct links to source spreadsheets, lower publishing costs, and the ability to publish unlimited apps while maintaining the publication’s artful design.
