HBO’s Lupe shines a light on immigrant transgender identity

HBO’s *Lupe* tells the story of a young Cuban immigrant searching for her sister in New York City while discovering her identity as a transgender woman. The film’s editor, Shiran Carolyn Amir, used Adobe Premiere Pro and After Effects to shape the documentary-style drama, bringing an intimate, authentic story to life.

Adobe helped solve the film’s complex post-production challenges, including unscripted scenes, multiple storylines, and difficult scene reconstruction. Using Adobe Premiere Pro and Adobe After Effects, the team created seamless edits and VFX cleanup work, and Adobe’s tools helped the project achieve a stronger narrative flow; one edited sequence even became an exclusive clip featured in a Deadline article promoting the film.
