Amanita Design, an independent Czech studio, created Machinarium, a visually rich, full-length online adventure game that challenged players with hand-drawn puzzles and animations. The company needed to preserve the game’s detailed look and interactivity while quickly expanding from web to mobile and reaching the widest possible audience without rebuilding the game for each platform.

Using Adobe Flash Professional, Flash Builder, Photoshop and Adobe AIR, Amanita ported and refined the original code and assets to mobile in a matter of weeks, converting the web-based game to an iPad app in under two months. The rapid cross-platform workflow helped Machinarium become iPad Game of the Week, win IGF’s Excellence in Visual Art and PC Gamer’s Best Soundtrack, and reach #1 on the iPad 2 charts in the U.S. during its first week.
