Adobe wins top honors for the Veterans Affairs Blue Button solution for health records

Adobe responded to the Veterans Affairs "Blue Button" initiative—a program that lets veterans download their personal health records—to address a common problem: the downloaded records were plain ASCII text and hard to use. The Markle Foundation’s Blue Button Developer Challenge invited innovators to create web-based tools that would make these records more accessible, usable, and platform-neutral; Adobe entered the contest to meet that need.

Adobe’s Blue Button Health Assistant combined Adobe AIR’s real-time, cross-platform interface with secure, auditable PDF technology (and LiveCycle-enabled workflows) to turn raw PHR text into a portable, user-friendly format. The solution won the Blue Button Developer Challenge at the Health 2.0 conference, gaining recognition from federal and industry judges for improving usability, security, and access across devices while demonstrating Adobe’s commitment to practical Open Government solutions.
