Case Study: Wrecking Ball Media Group achieves high-performance, mobile-optimized video portals and major cost savings with Adobe ColdFusion

A Adobe ColdFusion Case Study

Preview of the Wrecking Ball Media Group Case Study

Leading interactive agency continues to choose Adobe ColdFusion for large-scale web and application development projects

Wrecking Ball Media Group, a Fort Lauderdale–based interactive agency, was hired by Adobe to rebuild and modernize the Adobe TV portal and other web properties. Their challenge was to add extensive new features (mobile optimization, multilingual video translation, real-time recommendations), convert a library of over 11,000 Flash videos for desktop and mobile, migrate the platform without service disruption, and cut hosting and performance costs — all while keeping staff small. They chose Adobe ColdFusion (with Adobe ColdFusion Builder) as the core development platform.

Using Adobe ColdFusion to build a common service layer, REST APIs, WebSockets and CFML front ends, Wrecking Ball migrated Adobe TV to AWS Elastic Beanstalk, optimized 11,000 videos in under three months, and added features like real‑time recommendations and multilingual tracking. The Adobe ColdFusion–based solution reduced content response times from about 7 seconds to 70 milliseconds, supported more than 2 million unique monthly visitors and spikes up to 25,000 requests/sec, enabled the projects to be completed with only two developers each, and produced cloud hosting savings of tens of thousands of dollars per year.
