How Digital Transformation at a Community College Bolsters Student Success

Foothill–De Anza Community College District, in the heart of Silicon Valley, serves a diverse, often first‑generation student body and needed to reduce faculty and staff workloads while operating under tight budget pressure. The district faced a largely paper‑based culture and sought to digitize information, automate processes, and change how people work to better support students.

Leveraging the Foundation for California Community Colleges’ statewide Adobe license, the IT team deployed Adobe Document Cloud (Adobe Sign and Acrobat), building digital forms, APIs, dashboards and automated workflows — including the online application for a new dental hygiene bachelor’s program. The result: processes became fully digital and about 90% faster, 43 workflows were published during COVID‑19, thousands of forms were processed, and staff regained time to focus on student engagement while adoption spread across the district.
