Georgia State University, a public research university in Atlanta serving 32,848 undergraduates, faced a growing summer melt problem that had risen from 12% to nearly 19% in just a few years. The university needed a scalable way to provide personalized support to thousands of admitted students, and turned to AdmitHub for a text-messaging solution that could engage students without overwhelming staff or budget.
AdmitHub implemented Pounce, a custom virtual assistant that sent reminders, guided students through enrollment tasks, collected survey data, and answered questions instantly by text. In the randomized controlled trial, 3,114 admitted students opted in and the treatment group showed stronger completion of key enrollment steps, including a 3.3% increase in enrollment for June 1 admits and a 21.4% reduction in summer melt. Students sent more than 50,000 messages, 99%+ were handled by Pounce and AdmitHub staff, and 80% rated the experience 4 or 5 stars.
