How Liftoff takes on fraud

Liftoff is a mobile user-acquisition platform and active member of the Coalition Against Ad Fraud (CAAF) that has contended with pervasive mobile ad fraud since it began running campaigns. The company observed early signs such as anonymous or invalid device IDs, hyperactive devices, traffic from data centers, and abnormal click-to-install patterns that degraded campaign quality and wasted advertiser spend.

Liftoff implemented a three-pronged defense: ML-driven CPA optimization that automatically stops spending on low-value sources, systematic exclusion of suspicious bid requests (low‑intent publishers, data‑center traffic, hyperactive or anonymous users), and detection/blacklisting of abnormal user activity using click-to-install rate and time signals. These measures have reduced fraud’s impact, improved ROI and campaign integrity, and—through collaboration and information-sharing via CAAF—driven continuous improvements in detection and industry-wide efforts to reduce bad supply.
