Hartwall reduces CO2 emissions and boosts Heineken campaign performance with Adform

Hartwall, a major beverage company, faced the challenge of reducing carbon emissions from its digital advertising campaigns for Heineken brands to align with broader sustainability goals. They specifically needed to address emissions from media distribution in programmatic advertising and wanted to see if doing so would also improve campaign performance. They worked with their agency, Tulos, and the vendor Adform to use its Demand-Side Platform with a new carbon reduction feature.

Adform's solution was its DSP integrated with Scope3, which provided a carbon reduction feature. This allowed Hartwall to source more sustainable media at scale. The implementation successfully decreased grams of CO2 generated per 1000 impressions (gCO2PM). It also boosted campaign performance by decreasing Cost-Per-Click and increasing Click-Through-Rate, proving that sustainability and marketing goals can be complementary.
