AKD, one of the fastest growing top 50 Benelux law firms headquartered in the Netherlands, needed to better manage billing across six offices after centralizing finance in Rotterdam. The manual process was slowed by paper files, handwritten notes, miscommunications, and last-minute changes, creating errors and delays in the monthly billing cycle. Aderant implemented Paperless Billing to streamline prebill review with electronic markup, automated routing, and one-click acceptance. AKD rolled it out in phases and, after implementation, reduced billing errors, lowered paper and administrative costs, and gave lawyers better visibility into matter and client billing. The average time fee earners spent in Paperless Billing dropped from seven to eight hours to just 30 minutes to one hour after three billing cycles, and AKD reported the impact as “phenomenal.”
