Addepar’s Open Architecture Powers Innovative Experience

Makena Capital Management is a Menlo Park–based alternative investment manager serving endowments, foundations and family offices with $15 billion AUM. Founded by former endowment executives to deliver endowment-style, multi-asset investing more broadly, Makena faced rapid growth and rising client expectations for transparency and self-service; their third‑party document repository and manual workflows couldn’t scale to hundreds of clients or the complexity of alternative investments.

Using Addepar’s open platform and Jobs API as their data engine, Makena built a custom client portal (hosted on AWS) with four dashboards—Portfolio, Fund, Asset-Class and Manager—delivering consolidated analytics, exposures, cash flows and manager insights. The solution enabled automated, data‑driven reporting, thousands of client interactions per quarter, flatter operations headcount, more meaningful client conversations and the capacity to expand product offerings while keeping the investment team focused on performance.
