A Adaptigent Case Study
The Washington State Department of Licensing (WADOL) faced the challenge of modernizing its critical operations, which relied on 1.5 million lines of aging COBOL code on a costly and inflexible mainframe system. The agency needed to migrate to a modern .NET platform to reduce risk, cut expenses, and improve efficiency, but a full code conversion was prohibitively expensive and risky. They partnered with vendor Adaptigent to utilize their distributed Fujitsu NetCOBOL solution.
Adaptigent's solution used NetCOBOL to compile WADOL's existing COBOL code directly for the .NET platform, preserving all the business logic and eliminating the need for a risky, full-scale rewrite. This approach saved the department over $1 million in annual hardware and software costs, eradicated inefficient workarounds, and dramatically improved systems integration without any runtime fees.
