How Adaptavist created an Enterprise-level Confluence-based intranet for the whole UK Civil Service

The UK Government’s National Archives needed to replace a hard-copy Civil Service Directory and an underperforming intranet with a more user-driven collaboration platform that could scale to hundreds of thousands of users. Adaptavist was brought in to deliver a Confluence-based intranet using Adaptavist plugins, along with a tailored look-and-feel and custom functionality to better connect civil servants.

Adaptavist implemented two customised Confluence instances with add-ons such as ThemeBuilder and Community Bubbles, plus bespoke plugins for a personalised dashboard and searchable people directory. The result was a simple, stylish, low-cost and reliable intranet that is open and scalable, with over 18,000 active users and no per-user licence burden, while serving around 500 National Archives employees across three sites.
