Acunetix helps Team Random win the 2009 IS Competition prize for identifying most vulnerabilities on competitors’ servers

Team Random, a six-student team from École de technologie supérieure, entered the annual IS Competition at the Crystal Ball Conference, where teams scan peers’ web applications to report vulnerabilities. Facing a mix of Apache and IIS servers and custom apps built in PHP, Perl, Ruby, ASP/ASPX and Java, Team Random needed a fast, effective automated scanner — they chose Acunetix WVS from vendor Acunetix.

Using Acunetix WVS, Team Random quickly mastered the tool and scanned over 50 competitors’ servers, discovering a large number of issues (notably many XSS flaws) that other scanners missed. The effectiveness and ease of use of Acunetix helped the team identify the most vulnerabilities and win the 2009 IS Competition prize, demonstrating clear, measurable impact from Acunetix’s solution.
