Why a top veterinary school decided it was time to change their admissions process

Massey University School of Veterinary Science, a top veterinary school, wanted to modernize an admissions process that had relied almost entirely on GPA and standardized test scores since 1996. As applicant grades kept rising and some admitted students struggled with non-academic demands like communication, the school looked for a fairer, research-backed way to assess future veterinary performance and turned to Acuity Insights.

Acuity Insights helped Massey Vet School pilot and then implement Casper alongside a written situational judgment test and the multiple mini-interview. The school began using all three tools with applicants in 2017 and collecting data to decide which approach would work best long term; so far, Dr. Jillings noted that Casper was especially valuable because it required no institutional cost and was not time-, personnel-, or resource-intensive for the program to run.
