A Acuity Insights Case Study
Tulane University School of Medicine, a highly selective medical school receiving about 17,000 applications each year, needed a better way to assess non-cognitive qualities that matter for success in its MD program and mission. As part of its holistic admissions approach, the school wanted evidence that a new selection tool could add predictive value, and it worked with Acuity Insights to evaluate Casper, an open-format situational judgment test.
Acuity Insights supported Tulane through a pilot study using Casper to see whether scores correlated with future in-program performance. The school found that higher Casper scores were associated with a higher probability of receiving a favorable clerkship grade and a lower probability of receiving an incomplete grade, giving the admissions team confidence that Casper can help identify desirable applicant qualities. Based on these results, Tulane is now exploring rubrics grounded in actual student outcomes to inform future admissions decisions.
