CA, a leading public IT management software company based in Islandia, NY, needed a reliable way to automate quality assurance for its enterprise SiteMinder Web Access Manager product, which serves over 1,400 customers and runs on a broad platform matrix. CA found that open-source Perl at the time had multithreading, multiprocessor and scalability issues, so they required a trusted, enterprise-grade Perl distribution to drive automated testing across many operating systems.

In 2001 CA integrated ActiveState’s ActivePerl (OEM) to run more than 10,000 nightly test cases across its platform matrix (supporting over 350 combinations and nightly builds on ~20 platforms). The move delivered stable, cross‑platform test automation, enabling CA to detect and fix regressions within 24 hours, raise product quality, reduce the cost of expanding the product matrix, and free developers to focus on features rather than Perl maintenance.
