Department of Defense - Customer Case Study

The Department of Defense’s Washington Headquarters Services (WHS/OSD) needed a web-based way to move from paper to secure electronic documents for personnel and security workflows, including tracking executive-level security clearance adjudications. They required on-demand PDF generation from preformatted HTML stored in an Oracle database, with consistent headers/footers and reliable formatting for letters typically one to twenty pages long—capabilities that other products tested could not robustly provide.

ActivePDF’s DocGenius WebGrabber, combined with ActiveEdit and a ColdFusion front end, enabled WHS/OSD to edit, store, and dynamically convert HTML into secure, consistently formatted PDFs in a thin-client environment. The solution delivered scalable, editable HTML-to-PDF conversion, met and exceeded requirements, earned strong praise for pre- and post-sales support, and is being considered for wider deployment across the DoD.
