A ActiveNav Case Study
US-Based Fortune Company, a U.S. Fortune 1000 business with about 6,000 employees, was struggling with a 100TB+ data estate spread across on‑premise and cloud repositories and a rollout of Microsoft Information Protection (MIP) sensitivity labels. With more than 120 million files of largely unmanaged “dark data,” manual labeling was infeasible and the organization lacked visibility into what was sensitive, redundant, obsolete or trivial.
ActiveNav deployed ActiveNav Governance to map the entire estate, identify ROT, validate user-applied labels and apply sensitivity labels in place. In six months ActiveNav indexed, triaged and labeled over 120 million files, found 50% of data was ROT, that 99% of eligible files were unlabeled and 40% of user-labeled files were incorrect, and accurately labeled millions of files to enable targeted migration and stronger MIP enforcement. ActiveNav continues to monitor and upgrade labels, giving the company complete visibility and consistent protection across its data estate.
