Non-Profit Event Uses Affordable Marketing Techniques To Max Out Participation

Run the River 5K/10K, a fundraising race for a nonprofit, was challenged with increasing and sustaining participant numbers after registration plateaued at around 500 for several years. The organization turned to its vendor, ACTIVE Endurance, to reallocate its budget from local advertisements to a more effective online marketing strategy.

ACTIVE Endurance implemented a targeted marketing plan using its online channels, which included geo-targeted newsletter listings and online advertisements. The solution also involved an email campaign to past participants. This strategy doubled registration numbers, increasing them from the low 500s to over 1,000 in 2009 and 1,250 in 2010, nearly maxing out the event's capacity and proving the success of the affordable, targeted plan.
