School District Centralizes Student Services Accounting

Granite School District in Salt Lake City, Utah, which oversees 88 schools and about $10 million in student payments, needed to centralize and modernize student-fee accounting. Schools were using inconsistent, non-networked procedures—manual receipts, separate programs, and up to five hours a day of Quicken data entry—creating errors, weak accountability and no way to accept credit cards.

In 2008 the District deployed ACTIVE Network’s Blue Bear suite (Tracks, SchoolBooks and WebStore) with district and onsite school installations and targeted training. The integrated system cut manual entry by 2–3 hours per day, added online credit-card payments to reduce lines and cash handling, and raised course-fee collection from 70% to 92% (including a student who paid off a two-year fine).
