ICMM Partners with Action Sustainability to Improve Sustainable Procurement Policies

The International Council on Mining and Metals (ICMM), representing over 50 major mining organizations, faced the challenge of advancing sustainable development and improving its members' sustainable procurement policies. They partnered with Action Sustainability to conduct a comprehensive baseline analysis of their members' existing practices and to develop a practical path forward.

Action Sustainability executed this by performing a desktop review and conducting global interviews, which formed the basis of a detailed report with actionable recommendations. The outcome provided the sector's first substantive analysis of sustainable procurement, yielding 13 clear recommendations for improvement. This effort raised awareness, improved risk management understanding, and gave members a strong foundation for adopting the new ISO 20400 standard, ultimately helping to protect their social license to operate.
