A Actian Case Study
Sabre Holdings, a global leader in the travel marketplace, needed a scalable open-system solution to provide real-time airline inventory for Travelocity and other sites. Facing massive transactional throughput for origination-and-destination processing, Sabre sought to move off an expensive proprietary IBM TPF mainframe to an object-oriented design because relational databases could not meet performance and complexity demands.
Sabre deployed the Versant Object Database, which delivered the performance and object-model flexibility required and was operational within days. The Versant-based system’s small hardware footprint supports massive transaction volumes and now handles about 50% of Sabre’s transactional traffic across 30 airlines, providing reliable real-time inventory.
