A Actian Case Study
Softwear BV, a Dutch SaaS provider for fashion and apparel retailers and wholesalers, struggled to meet customer demand for on‑demand analytics: its legacy FoxPro/transactional database slowed as tables grew from millions toward billions of rows, delivering poor query performance and requiring extensive server hardware. Customers expected an integrated, easy-to-use reporting service accessible from tablets and mobile devices, so Softwear needed a scalable, low‑maintenance analytics platform it could deliver as SaaS.
Softwear adopted Actian Vectorwise for Windows as the analytic engine behind its HTML5 front end (with MongoDB for property storage), bulk-loading historical data into a single consolidated database. The result: queries that once took seconds or minutes now return in milliseconds, analytics and reporting run up to 100× faster, the server footprint shrank from hundreds of machines to a single multi‑core server, and customers gain fast, interactive, mobile-ready BI at a much lower cost and maintenance overhead.
