Case Study: University of the West of England improves student system performance with Actian Professional Services

A Actian Case Study

University of the West of England upgrades 30,000-student system with Actian

The University of the West of England (UWE) faced the challenge of upgrading its mission-critical student record system from Actian Ingres 10.2 to the current release while simultaneously migrating it from an aging Solaris UNIX platform to Linux. This complex technical project needed to be completed without any service interruption to the system that manages the entire student lifecycle, all during the COVID-19 pandemic lockdowns.

Actian Professional Services provided the full solution, executing the upgrade and migration remotely. They deployed Actian's Enterprise Monitoring Appliance Plus (EMA+) and DBA Toolkit to ensure a smooth transition and ongoing system optimization. The result was an interruption-free migration that improved application performance for users, reduced operating costs by eliminating the Solaris environment, and positioned UWE to take advantage of new infrastructure options.
