A Actian Case Study
The Bank, a global leader in retail and corporate banking with tens of millions of online and mobile customers, faced a major analytics challenge when its in‑house Netezza platform reached end-of-life. It needed a cost‑effective, scalable replacement that could consolidate positions across all asset classes into a single repository, ingest massive structured and unstructured data volumes, and deliver sub‑minute risk and exposure insights instead of once‑daily batch reports—all while improving price/performance, maintainability, and total cost of ownership.
After a proof of concept, the Bank moved to Actian Vector, a columnar, in‑memory analytics platform that required far less hardware and handled complex queries and mixed data types with faster load and query performance. The result: analytics that once took hours or days now run in minutes, stronger real‑time risk visibility, lower development and staffing needs, reuse of existing hardware, and an expected $20 million in savings over five years, with plans to expand the solution across other business units.
