Tracking Attendance and Assets using RFID Technology and Embedded Database Systems in Education

Plurilogic, a Canadian school information system provider, faced the common education challenge of reliably tracking students and portable assets across many locations where barcode scanners and intermittent networks often failed. Schools needed a secure, low-cost way to capture attendance and asset movement without requiring line-of-sight scans or constant connectivity.

Plurilogic deployed RFID readers on low-cost Raspberry Pi devices running Actian Zen Edge for local data capture and an Actian Zen Enterprise server for centralized sync, so records are stored locally when networks are down and automatically uploaded when connectivity returns. The solution delivered accurate, secure, and cost-efficient monitoring of attendance and assets, reduced losses, improved billing and reimbursement accuracy, and greater parent and administrator confidence across diverse educational settings.
