A Actian Case Study
Rodan Systems is a Polish independent software vendor founded in 1989 that has long invested heavily in R&D and committed to the Ingres database as the core of its enterprise solutions. Faced with the challenge of modernizing and expanding its document and workflow product line for large public-sector customers (including government offices, the National Bank of Poland and regional administrations) — and with a need to support open standards, large user bases and a move to Ingres 2006 — Rodan needed a stable, scalable platform to drive a new generation of applications and enable international growth.
Rodan built its OfficeObjects Java multi‑layer platform on Ingres 2006 to deliver integrated document management and workflow systems (deployments include the Civil Rights Protection Office, the Wielkopolska provincial support system and a Polish State Forest pilot). The solutions proved reliable and long‑lived, enabled customers to become self‑sufficient, supported open‑standards goals, and offered a cost advantage through Ingres’s GPL/subscription model — positioning Rodan to compete internationally with a low‑cost, standards‑based product.
