A Actian Case Study
Axiell, the UK leader in library, archives and museum systems, needed to scale its OpenGalaxy solution from 15 to all 33 London boroughs while cutting costs, improving performance, extending to the cloud, and strengthening data security. Their existing 64-bit Solaris/SPARC platform constrained growth and was expensive for local-authority customers under tight budgets.
Axiell migrated to SUSE Linux on Intel and upgraded to Actian Ingres Database 10 and OpenROAD 5.1, enabling disk encryption, multiversion concurrency control, cloud deployment and a new web client. The change delivered outstanding performance and scalability, roughly one-third lower platform and hardware costs, reduced maintenance, stronger security, and improved support—allowing Axiell to expand services and increase client confidence.
