Peerless Foods, Australia’s largest producer of edible oils, fats and margarines, needed a flexible, scalable ERP to modernize and automate its growing production, forecasting and distribution processes. Off‑the‑shelf systems lacked industry‑specific features and the company wanted to avoid high proprietary licensing costs, so a small in‑house development team set out to build a custom solution.

Peerless selected the Ingres database and OpenROAD development environment to build its ERP and later added the Ingres Icebreaker BI appliance with Jaspersoft for analytics. The Ingres‑based platform automated planning, production and distribution, improved forecasting and sales analysis, cut licensing costs by an estimated $300,000–$400,000 per year, and produced a resalable solution marketed through its PeerCore arm.
