A Actian Case Study
Oxford University’s Clinical Trial Service Unit (CTSU) supports long-term epidemiological and bioresearch studies, including the UK Biobank with data from over 500,000 volunteers. Their legacy database infrastructure could not cope with massive volumes and analytics across thousands of fields and multiple tables, so complex researcher queries routinely took days and hindered timely analysis.
CTSU deployed Actian Vectorwise for high-speed ad-hoc analytics and reporting, enabling data loads in minutes and turning multi-day queries into results in seconds or minutes. The new setup required little extra training or maintenance, future-proofs their analytic platform, and dramatically improves the speed and service with which researchers can access and analyze bioresearch data.
