A Actian Case Study
China Telecommunications Corp., a state-owned carrier managing about 250 million ADSL subscribers, faced a performance and scalability crisis: its centralized RDBMS was expensive to scale and increasingly unable to support peak loads of roughly 480,000 queries and 1,000 updates per second. The company needed a low-cost, distributed solution that could deliver reliable, real-time access to hundreds of thousands of account objects.
China Telecom deployed the Versant Object Database on a cluster of blade servers, storing subscriber records as native objects to eliminate object-relational mapping and simplify scaling. The distributed Versant solution delivered the required high-performance, persistent environment, was successfully tested to handle up to 1,000,000 queries per second, and reduced extension and maintenance costs.
