A Actian Case Study
INIT AG, a global leader in intelligent transportation and electronic ticketing systems, faced the challenge of storing and serving complex, networked real-time data for 24/7 telematics and passenger-information applications. Their MOBILE platform demanded high concurrency, availability and runtime performance that conventional relational databases could not deliver without costly object-to-table mapping and runtime overhead.
After evaluating options, INIT adopted the Versant Object Database for components with complex, real-time requirements while keeping Oracle for simpler reporting data. The result is a scalable, always-on system deployed across 300+ customers and roughly 400 projects (including NYC’s Access‑A‑Ride and DB Stadtverkehr), delivering precise real-time vehicle tracking and passenger information with low maintenance, easy installation and over a decade of reliable performance.
