HSE reduces risk by calling on Actian to provide an outsourced environment for its secure website

The Health and Safety Executive’s Chemicals Regulations Directorate (CRD) needed a secure, managed hosting solution when it split its public and secure websites across separate IPs. CRD required more than basic Windows hosting — it needed a low‑risk, flexible managed environment that included Actian Ingres and OpenROAD management, seamless migration from an uncertain in‑house provider, and continued controlled access for staff.

CRD signed a 12‑month managed service with Actian using Enterprise Management Service (EMS) and the Enterprise Management Appliance (EMA); hardware was provided via Rackspace, while Actian installed and remotely monitored the Ingres, OpenROAD and IIS environment during business hours. The outsourced solution automated monitoring and support, kept the secure site operational and secure, allowed CRD staff to perform ad‑hoc updates, and delivered a low‑cost, future‑proof model for ongoing managed hosting.
