Computational Research Laboratories Ltd. - Customer Case Study

Computational Research Laboratories (CRL), a TATA Group company and operator of the Eka supercomputing facility, provides one of the first full‑service HPC offerings in the public cloud. Facing emerging HPC workloads that generate large, complex datasets, CRL needed a database engine that could run on a highly scalable Linux cluster without becoming a performance bottleneck.

CRL partnered with Actian to integrate the Versant object database into its tensile (hyper‑elastic) cloud infrastructure; a proof‑of‑concept at Supercomputing 2010 demonstrated sustained analytics performance and seamless, performance‑oriented scalability as data volumes grew. The November 2010 deployment enabled CRL to deliver end‑to‑end high‑performance, elastic database services to data‑intensive customers and serve as a launch pad for innovators across HPC verticals.
