A Actian Case Study
Direction des Systèmes d'Information (DSI) manages telecommunications and IT for the Canton of Vaud’s Justice Department and faced the challenge of providing a highly available, cost‑effective platform to run three mission‑critical applications (GDD, GDC and DREF) that together handle roughly 80,000 cases a year. These legacy OpenROAD applications are tightly coupled to the existing Ingres RDBMS, so DSI needed a stable, low‑cost database solution that avoided costly migrations while remaining adaptable to upcoming legal changes.
DSI kept and extended its open‑source Ingres platform (with Bedag as integrator and Ingres Services support), using replication to ensure consistent, reliable data across applications. The result is a single, easy‑to‑manage infrastructure delivering real‑time case information to citizens, faster court services, lower development and licensing costs, improved staff productivity, and continued confidence in Ingres’s reliability and scalability as they consider future upgrades.
