Banca IFIS Banks on Actian Ingres Database for Big Savings and Scalability

Banca IFIS, an independent Italian bank specializing in financing enterprises, faced rapid European expansion and new Italian banking regulations that demanded higher security, data protection, high availability and disaster recovery. The bank needed a cost-effective, scalable and fully internationalized core application (including Unicode support for Eastern European character sets) and had under a year to deliver these changes without disrupting service.

Working with Actian, Banca IFIS migrated its applications and data to an Actian Ingres Icebreaker Appliance deployed in a virtualized environment, enabled full UTF-8 support with Ingres OpenROAD, and implemented Operational Services plus HVR middleware for real-time disaster recovery. The project was delivered on time, resulting in lower total cost of ownership, improved reliability, availability and SLAs, seamless multi-language support across Europe, and a scalable foundation for future growth.
