Regional Government in Switzerland Implements Secure Mobile File Management

The Government of Basel-Stadt (GBS) in Switzerland, responsible for seven departments and about 5,000 employees, faced growing security and version-control problems as staff used personal mobile devices to access and share enterprise documents. To keep documents inside its own environment and track downloads, GBS evaluated solutions and selected Acronis, deploying Acronis Files Advanced to create a secure bring‑your‑own‑device (BYOD) environment.

Acronis implemented Files Advanced via a pilot and January 2012 rollout (initially on 60 iPad devices, with plans to reach 500 endpoints), integrating in a half hour and a few days for full use and running over the government VPN to avoid firewall changes. Acronis’ solution eliminated file synchronization and version‑control issues, enabled secure remote access, cut printing costs and administrative overhead, and simplified telecommuting—delivering clear security and operational improvements across GBS.
