George Brown College Chooses Acronis Backup Advanced for Windows Server, Reduces Downtime from Hours to Just Minutes

George Brown College, a large Toronto institution with about 60,000 students and a growing Windows Server estate supporting many web- and database-driven applications, needed faster server deployments and the ability to recover failed servers without long outages. Previously using Symantec Ghost—which required taking machines offline and multi-hour deployments—the college selected Acronis and implemented Acronis Backup Advanced for Windows Server to address these challenges.

Acronis deployed SAN-based, bootable host images, Acronis Universal Restore, and central console remote restores to enable rapid cloning, automated deployments, and fast hardware recovery. The result: mission-critical applications now report 100% uptime, remote location response times and overall downtime were cut by about 95%, deployments shrank from hours to minutes, and recoveries were reduced to “non-events,” significantly lowering administrative effort.
