GIM Drives Multiple Efficiencies at Anglo American’s Coal business

Anglo American’s Coal business, a mining exploration operation, needed to standardise how geoscientific information was stored and managed across seven mine sites in Australia and Canada. With seven different local systems and no single source of truth, the team wanted a more consistent way to capture, validate, and share exploration data, including related non-geological information such as costs and tenement data. Anglo American selected acQuire’s GIM Solution to help address this challenge.

acQuire implemented the GIM Solution in six staged database rollouts over 6–8 weeks each, focusing on people, processes, and technology to support workflows, auditing, and data quality. The result was improved efficiency, better metadata, standardized reporting, and stronger QA/QC for borehole data, with up to 100 internal users benefiting from the system. Anglo American also gained more accurate borehole cost analysis and more comprehensive financial and geoscientific insight across the business.
