Rice University, a private research university in Houston, needed a better way to manage nearly 300 websites and improve the online experience for students, faculty, alumni, and donors. Its previous CMS, Ektron, was hard for content authors and developers to use, with inconsistent branding, accessibility, and separate maintenance across sites. Rice University turned to Acquia, using Drupal and Acquia Site Factory to replace its fragmented web platform.

Acquia implemented Site Factory and helped Rice University convert its sites onto a unified platform, enabling easier editing, shared access for developers, and more consistent branding and responsiveness. The results included faster site management across 320+ sites, improved user experience across browsers and devices, and the ability to rapidly publish emergency information during Hurricane Harvey across 280 sites. Acquia also helped Rice University streamline support and free the development team to focus on more strategic work.
