One system, transformative change a smart CMS

govCMS is the Australian Government’s whole‑of‑government content management and hosting service for federal, state and local agencies, launched in March 2015. Agencies faced fragmented, proprietary systems, complex infrastructure and slow procurement/support processes that limited flexibility, collaboration and innovation.

The government partnered with Acquia to deliver an open‑source Drupal platform hosted in the cloud, using an agile, solution‑agnostic procurement and local SME support. The result: faster delivery, lower licensing and infrastructure costs, improved cross‑agency collaboration and reusable custom modules (like the “Have Your Say” tool); by January 2016, 51 sites were live and agencies reported quicker problem resolution and more cost‑effective digital services.
