MassChallenge Chooses Acquia to Drive New Age of Startup Innovation

MassChallenge, founded in 2009 by John Harthorne and Akhil Nigam, is the world’s largest startup accelerator, supporting 128 startups annually and awarding $1 million in grants and prizes. To grow internationally and better showcase startups’ stories, MassChallenge needed a scalable, multilingual digital platform to engage founders, mentors, partners and a rapidly increasing pool of applicants.

MassChallenge chose Drupal and partnered with Acquia for an elastic cloud platform, localization, multilingual capabilities and ongoing technical support. The platform supported rapid growth—applications rose from 446 in 2010 to 1,650 in 2014—and enabled MassChallenge to pursue expansion plans, targeting 10 international locations by 2019.
