A Acquia Case Study
The City of Los Angeles, the nation’s second-largest city with nearly 4 million residents, faced an aging 12-year-old CMS that limited functionality, forced antiquated browsers, and strained a decentralized IT organization spread across 40+ departments. With staffing reduced and proprietary license costs rising, the city needed a user‑friendly, resilient, cloud‑ready platform to deliver mobile‑responsive, data‑driven, and personalized digital services for citizens, businesses, visitors, and employees.
The city selected Drupal on the Acquia Platform, using Acquia Cloud Site Factory to centralize templates and rapidly spin up and manage many departmental sites while preserving front‑end flexibility. The rollout consolidated a dozen sites (with dozens more planned), improved availability from about 95% to 100%, increased pageviews 19% year‑over‑year to 787,953 (March 2015), and delivered better uptime, disaster recovery, efficiency, and lower total cost of ownership.
